Seesawing With My Sister

My sister and her husband are moving soon. She invited me over for a packing session.

I showed up bright and early wearing my ‘it’s-time-to-get-stuff-done’ overalls.

We started by making coffee and taking the dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Then we hung out in her backyard where I saw the homemade teeter-totter they use for their dog’s agility training. My sister proceeded to stand on the center of the beam and balance herself, keeping both sides off the ground. I was impressed.

I had to see if I could do it. This mini-competition went back and forth. Me struggling to balance, then her easily balancing. We laughed and laughed.

Then we each sat on either end of the board and starting seesawing. All our cares went away as we lifted and lowered each other with ease.

On my drive home, I realized we didn’t do ANY packing at all . . . and that’s okay; because I will never forget seesawing with my sister.

Sometimes building memories is more important than the task at hand.
